Voting Goes Mobile In Estonia

The Estonian government has agreed to a resolution that allows their people to cast votes via mobile phone. The new cell phone balloting option will be available to Estonians starting in 2011. Few years before, they became the very first nation to allow their citizens to vote via the internet.

users willing to vote via their cell phones need to have their mobile equipped with a special chip available from the Estonian Governmental offices. The chip is necessary in order to confirm the voter’s identity, and prevent fraud.

In the future we can expect more countries allowing mobile voting.
